After a six week review MediaWorks has decided that for commercial reasons Campbell Live will be replaced by a new, as yet unnamed, current affairs show at 7pm Monday – Thursday nights. The new show will have two presenters, with one strongly rumoured to be Paul Henry. What this would mean for his morning show remains to be seen, but it is not unknown for presenters to have a presence at both ends of the day. An entertainment show will run in the 7pm slot on Fridays.
Campbell Live debuted on 21 March 2005 and for many years struggled to compete against it’s TV One opposition Close Up. In 2013 when TV One moved to address the decline in Close Up audience levels by replacing it with Seven Sharp, Campbell Live was very competitive. However since then the Seven Sharp audience has grown, while Campbell Live’s has declined – although this trend halted six weeks ago when the review of the show was announced. However even this rebound seems to be running out of steam.
